Mampiki – sounds good

Cosy apartment in the Saska Kępa district. There is a wardrobe fully filled with colorful clothes brand Mamapiki in one of the rooms. Kasia and Marta often guest visitors who come to pick up their orders made in the internet store. Many  Warsawers may remember the successful designers from the club called 5 10 15. In this place they organized a  workshop kept open even at late night.

 Mampiki style

Mamapiki – it’s called like this, just because it sounds good. Girls talk about their clothes in a very alike, simple way: Our first projects were made in a very easy way. We didn’t had any stiff assumptions or brand image, we tried to be open-minded. It was quite an anarchistic activity  based on the slogan: <Mampiki makes clothes>. Simply. It was kind of a passion and hobby. It’s  hard to  classify this common activity  to any genre. Our clothes aren’t smart, but they aren’t sporty  in the traditional understanding either. Shall  we call it the girly-sporty genre? It’s not a perfect term, because guys wear Mamapiki clothes as well. They usually decide to buy the unisex pants and blouses. In general, Mamapiki is an optimistic minimalism inspired by urban space.

Made by friends for friends

Kasia and Marta studied Fashion Design in Łódź at The Academy of Fine Arts. Their common ideas and work resulted in their first projects (2009), which were being sold in the shop called Auć Bella in Praga district.  Next year girls would have met their customers for the first time, in two parties called Hożarty and Mustache. Since then they have been appearing in such events frequently. April 2010, so Hożarty and Mustache, was very important for us. It was our first face to face contact with clients. We also noticed in  there other, not mainstream brands. This experience made as aware of a  really big scale and opportunity for this kind of design, and of how big is people’s interest  in our art.

Uniqe imperfections

Mamapiki act spontaneously, but they have some assumptions, that were clarified during their common work. Photo sessions of collections or website design were made by friends. That’s why the collective’s keynote sounds: Made by friends for friends
Girls like the local production and the uniqness of their projects. We try to do on our own as much as it possible. For example we screen print on our bags; we do the labels; we stamp boxes etc., all by ourselves. it might be  not perfect and sometimes a mistake sneaks, some defects appear, but this is all very ours, unique and sets us apart from a mass production. And we think it has a value.
